Visakhapatnam: An all-round performance by the Delhi Capitals pushed the Sunrisers Hyderabad to their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2025 here on Sunday. Delhi chased the target of 164 set by SRH with 24 balls to spare.
The famed batting lineup of Hyderabad was shattered by a record-breaking performance by Mitchell Starc, who took five wickets to become Delhi's first overseas player to reach the milestone. Starc also completed 200 wickets in the IPL.
Defending a small target posed a great challenge to the SRH bowlers accustomed to big scores set by their batsmen. Openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Faf du Plessis took full advantage and scored 81 in the first wicket partnership.
After du-Plessis and McGurk were dismissed, Abishek Porel and KL Rahul took the innings forward. Rahul made a quick 15 runs off 5 deliveries before Zeeshan Ansari claimed his wicket.
Tristan Stubbs and Porel carefully guided their team to victory without much damage. Porel made an unbeaten 34 runs while Stubbs scored 21 runs.
Ansari was the pick of the bowlers who took three wickets.
Earlier, batting first, SRH batsmen had a hard time on the pitch facing the disciplined Delhi bowling attack. Apart from Aniket Verma, none of the SRH batters could put up a fight against DC.
Hyderabad lost opener Abhishek Sharma in the first over. A direct throw from Vipraj Nigam hit the stumps, and Abhishek was not even close to the crease.
Travis Head contributed 22 runs, but his Australian teammate Starc claimed his wicket. Later, Verma and Heinrich Klaasen added valuable 77 runs to the board, setting up the base for SRH.
Mohit Sharma dismissed Klaasen for 32 runs. Verma continued his fight but was dismissed for 74 in the 15th over by Kuldeep Yadav.
After the duo was dismissed, Delhi bowlers ensured that none of the other batters could keep up a fight and wrapped their innings for just 163 runs.
Apart from Starc, Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets, offering much-needed assistance.
