The broadcasters showed an emotional moment between Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli from the Indian dressing room during the final day of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. It made the commentators wonder what the two cricket stalwarts were discussing.

Now the picture is clear: It was the moment Ashwin told Virat about his decision to retire from international cricket. Startled at first, Virat gave his buddy a tight hug.

"I’ve played with you for 14 years and when you told me today you’re retiring, it made me a bit emotional and the flashbacks of all those years playing together came to me," Virat posted on X after the match.

Ashwin announced his decision to retire from all forms of international cricket in the post-match press conference. He has finished his India career with 765 wickets, including 537 in Tests and 156 in ODIs.

Virat, who made his T20 debut alongside Ashwin at Harare on June 12, 2010, has wished his 'buddy' "the best in your life with your family and everything else that it unfolds for you".

"I’ve enjoyed every bit of the journey with you ash, your skill and match winning contributions to Indian cricket are second to none and you will always and always be remembered as a legend of Indian cricket," Virat posted.
