A star-studded Mumbai led by Shreyas Iyer defeated Vidarbha by 6 wickets in a high-scoring quarterfinal of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 at Alur on Wednesday.

Vidarbha made 221/6, with Atharva Taide (66) and Apoorv Wankhade (51) hitting fifties. Needing to cross a massive target to reach the semifinals, Mumbai made a brilliant start as openers Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane added 83.

Shaw looked in great touch, hitting four sixes and five boundaries before being dismissed by Dipesh Parwani for 49 off 26. Captain Iyer (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (9) fell early, but Rahane made 84 from 45.

Big-hitter Shivam Dube joined Suryansh Shedge in the middle, but Mumbai still needed 65 from 29 balls. A costly 17th over that went for 24 runs turned the tables. Dube smashed Dipesh for consecutive sixes to get Mumbai closer, and they got across the finish line with four balls left.
