Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bengaluru have completed the IPL playoffs line up by beating Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday.
Chasing a target of 219, Chennai needed 201 to qualify and had to get 17 off the last six to ensure it. MS Dhoni hit Yash Dayal for a six the first ball but was caught in the deep trying another one. The left-arm pacer then kept it tidy and gave away just one run off the next four balls.
With the 27-run win, RCB pipped CSK in net run rate to finish fourth in the points table. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals had secured qualification while Sunrisers Hyderabad could finish as high as second if they beat Punjab Kings in their final game.
Earlier in the match, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli fired Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 218/5. Captain Du Plessis made 54 off 39 while Kohli hit 47. Rajat Patidar (41) and Cameron Green (38 no) were instrumental in getting RCB past 200. For CSK, Shardul Thakur bagged two wickets.
Rain had interrupted proceedings after only three overs of play. There had been a forecast of heavy rain across the city and a washout would have seen Chennai advance.
