Kochi: The Harbour Police have taken into custody two people with Rs 2.70 crore in unaccounted cash. The money was confiscated from an autorickshaw parked along the walkway near Kannangattu bridge at Willingdon Island.

Bihar native Sabin Ahammed (21) and Rajagopal (41) from Tamil Nadu were taken into custody from the vehicle as they could not reveal the source of the money.

The police checked the autorickshaw as they noticed the vehicle being moved away in a suspicious manner. The riders gave unclear answers when the police questioned them. The police found the money stashed in the boot of the vehicle in three cloth bags. The police team alerted the higher officers as there were 97 bundles of cash.

A team led by Ernakulam South ACP P Rajkumar arrived the spot and counted the money with a teller machine.

Sabin told the police that he works at a textile shop in Market Road and he was assigned by his employer to hand over the money to someone. The police were yet to verify the claims.
