Kollam: A 22-year-old student was stabbed to death in his home here on Monday. The deceased is Febin George Gomas, a second-year BCA student at Fatima Mata College. Febin's father, Gomez, sustained minor injuries during the attack.
The accused, Thejas Raj, a native of Neendakara, was found dead on the railway track near Kadapppakada in Kollam.
According to the information received by Deputy Mayor S Jayan, the alleged perpetrator, Thejas Raj, was consumed by revenge. Febin reportedly objected to Thejas's feelings for his elder sister who is working in a private sector bank in North Kerala. Thejas was the classmate of Febin's sister.
The incident happened around 7 pm. Thejas reached the house wearing a burka. A small girl saw him approaching the house. Noticing that the person in burka was also wearing men's shoes, she was certain that it was a man but did not suspect anything foul, a neighbour told Onmanorama.
Thejas stabbed Febin in the chest. He also attacked Gomez who tried to stop him. Febin ran out of the house in desperation and fell on the road, the neighbour said. Febin was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead.
Remya Vinod, the member of Puthenthura ward in Neendakara Panchayat, said the incident had shocked her. Thejas's house falls in Remya's ward. "The boy does not talk much but has always come across as pleasant and helpful. I cannot imagine he had it in him to commit such a crime and then kill himself," Remya, who also doubles as ASHA worker, said.
Thejas is the son of a serving police officer. His mother is a housewife. His elder brother works in the Irrigation Department. "I have never heard of Thejas getting into even minor trouble," Remya said.
Febin, a Uliyakovil native, was living with his father and mother. His father Gomez works as the driver of a doctor in Benziger Hospital, Kollam. His sister is a Federal Bank employee in Kozhikode.
