Malappuram: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) national leadership visited Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Kerala president Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal at his residence in Panakkad, Malappuram, on Saturday. The TMC delegation included MPs Mahua Moitra and Derek O'Brien, accompanied by former Nilambur MLA PV Anvar, who recently joined the party.

Describing the meeting as a "friendly union," Thangal said any political aspects would be addressed at the upcoming United Democratic Front (UDF) meeting on February 27. IUML is a key constituent of the UDF. Notably, the TMC state committee has initiated talks with the UDF regarding potential entry into the alliance.

Thangal highlighted that the TMC is part of the INDIA alliance at the national level and stressed that decisions on its induction into the UDF should align with the broader alliance framework.

Meanwhile, Anvar clarified that the visit was primarily linked to a state-level seminar on the central forest law amendment organised by the TMC in Manjeri on Sunday. “We also have a leaders’ meeting on Saturday afternoon. Our discussions at Panakkad were friendly, focusing on national political issues,” he added.
