ADGP Ajith Kumar relieved of duties as central sports officer on request

Thiruvananthapuram: The state police chief has relieved ADGP, Armed police battalion M R Ajith Kumar of his duties as Kerala police central sports officer. DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb issued the proceedings on January 30 citing that Ajith Kumar requested to be relieved of his charge as central sports officer. The request was filed on October 22, 2024.
As per the proceedings issued by the state police chief, ADGP, Headquarters has been appointed as Kerala police central sports officer. ADGP, Armed police battalion was made the central sports officer in January 2023. The new circular from DGP has modified this order. In October 2024, ADGP M R Ajith Kumar was removed as head of Law and Order, following the accusations levelled by former Nilambur MLA P V Anvar. Anvar also told a public meeting that Chief Minister was scared of removing Ajith Kumar from the post and on the same day, the order to remove Ajith Kumar was issued. His request to be relieved of duties as sports officer came two weeks after he was removed as the ADGP (Law & Order).
The decision to remove Ajith Kumar from Law and Order was based on DGP Sheik Darvesh Saheb's report, which found grave shortcomings in the official conduct of the ADGP on a host of issues, particularly his decision to meet top RSS leaders. The DGP is also said to have attributed questionable motives to the ADGP in the investigation into the murder of Ridan, who was allegedly linked to gold smuggling from Karipur.
Manoj Abraham replaced Ajith Kumar as the ADGP (Law & Order) in October 2024.
