Kalpetta: The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) campus at Pookode, Wayanad, was placed on high alert after receiving a bomb threat via email on Friday. The email, sent from an ID named ‘Nivedya’ to Vice Chancellor Dr Anil KS and the registrar, claimed that the attack was in retaliation for the execution of Afzal Guru, who was convicted in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack.

The message warned of twin improvised explosive device (IED) blasts targeting the university and the US Consulate at Anna Salai, Chennai, on February 9—the day Afzal Guru was hanged in 2013. The email read: "On this holy day, your veterinary college and the Anna Salai US consulate will be victims of twin pipe IED blasts. This is to commemorate the unfair hanging of Afzal Guru."

Following the alert, a bomb squad, forensic experts, and a police team launched a search operation on the campus by 10.45 am. KVASU security personnel had already conducted a preliminary inspection, reviewing CCTV footage and checking for suspicious activity. However, no explosives or suspicious materials were found.

Thunderbolt commandos were also extensively searched, but no results were obtained. "The email was received on my official account and the registrar's. This is the first time KVASU has faced such a bomb threat," Dr Anil KS said. "The search operation has now concluded, and no explosives have been detected so far," he added. Authorities are investigating the source of the email and assessing potential security threats.
