Ernakulam: The 20-year-old woman who was found bleeding and critically injured in a semi-conscious state in Chottanikara succumbed to her injuries on Friday. She was on ventilator support for the past six days following a brutal assault by her boyfriend at her home on Saturday night.
Chottanikkara police arrested the 24-year-old accused and charged him with rape and attempted murder based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother.
A relative from Wayanad, who visited the house on Sunday, discovered the victim lying on the floor, partially disrobed, with ligature marks on her neck and multiple wounds across her body. She was bleeding profusely, and residents suspected she had been subjected to prolonged assault.
The victim, a student at a special school, lived with her adoptive mother, who was relocated to Kakkanad two days ago following threats from the accused and a group of youths.
Panchayat representatives confirmed that the mother, a widow, had adopted the victim as a child. Speaking to the media, she revealed that the accused had regularly assaulted her daughter. "He came home regularly, and I wasn't aware of it until the neighbours," she said.
