Kozhikode: The Kasaba police on Thursday recorded the statement of Malayalam actor and mimicry artist Koottickal Jayachandran, also known as KR Jayachandran, in connection with a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act case involving the alleged molestation of a four-year-old girl. “He arrived at the station with his wife and lawyer. Further actions will follow accordingly,” Kasaba police told Onmanorama.
Jayachandran, a native of Koottickal in Kottayam, had been absconding since the case was registered. The Kerala High Court denied his anticipatory bail plea earlier, prompting the police to issue a lookout notice. However, on January 27, the Supreme Court granted him interim protection from arrest until February 28, with the condition that he fully cooperate with the investigation.
The case, registered at the Kasaba police station in 2024, is based on a complaint by the survivor’s mother, who alleged that Jayachandran abused the child, exploiting a family dispute. He has been booked under IPC Sections 376(2)(n) and 376AB, along with Sections 5(l), 5(m), 5(n), and 5(p), read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
