Ernakulam Central Police registered a case against filmmaker B Unnikrishnan and producer Anto Joseph based on a complaint filed by producer Sandra Thomas on Friday. Sandra alleged that she was publicly humiliated and excluded from the film industry after testifying before the Hema Committee.
Sandra initially filed a complaint against the accused at the Central Police Station. However, due to their inaction, she approached the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate, and upon the court's intervention, the police registered the case.
Speaking to Manorama News, Sandra described the emotional toll of workplace challenges and the subsequent legal battles. "Facing workplace challenges, reacting to them, being excluded as a result, and then having to pursue legal recourse is mentally exhausting," she said.
She emphasised that resisting organised attacks is the only option left when such situations arise. Sandra added that her actions aim to support both women and men who are silenced and unable to voice their struggles.
''When friends from the film industry call, they ask, 'Will you be doing any more films?' What they mean is that I won’t be allowed to work in films anymore. Such situations should not exist in this era, and I firmly believe justice will prevail,'' Sandra stated.
She also highlighted that the harassment she faced was not an isolated incident. ''Many endure harassment out of fear of losing their livelihood. After decades of tolerating such behaviour, I had no choice but to file a complaint,'' Sandra explained.
