Wayanad: A tiger has struck again in Aramakuni, killing another goat near Thoopra anganvadi during the night, bringing the total number of goats killed to five. Efforts to capture the tiger continued late into the night on Tuesday. The animal was spotted near a cage set up close to the carcass of a goat it had killed earlier in the day at Oottikkavala.
Though the Rapid Response Team (RRT) cornered the tiger, it managed to escape. Thermal drones are being used to track its movements, and residents have been advised to remain vigilant. Additional police personnel are deployed in the area. Officials are focusing on safely capturing the tiger using a cage without resorting to tranquillizer shots.
For the past week, the tiger has been instilling fear among locals in Aramakuni by preying on livestock. On Tuesday morning, it killed a goat belonging to Biju at Oottikkavala Payikkandam. The family raised an alarm, causing the tiger to flee. Just a day earlier, it had killed a goat owned by a man named Keshavan. In response to the tiger’s presence, the forest department has set up three cages in the area to facilitate its capture.
