Wayanad bribe-for-job scam: Satheesan, Govindan visit NM Vijayan's family

Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan and the CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Monday visited the house of former Wayanad DCC treasurer N M Vijayan, whose suicide has recently created discussions around the Kerala political sphere. The leaders interacted with Vijayan's son, Vijesh and daughter-in-law, Padmaja, and expressed solidarity with the family's concerns.
The family had earlier released a letter Vijayan had written to the KPCC leadership. In it, he detailed corruption in the Wayanad DCC and called for urgent intervention to protect his family in his absence. Vijayan's family took an anti-Congress stance after the party leaders' alleged reluctance to support them after his death. "The party also tried to tarnish our reputation shortly after his demise," the family added.
We will protect the family: M V Govindan
M V Govindan, after visiting Vijayan's family along with other party leaders, told the media that they were burdened with a debt of around Rs 2.1 crore. He criticised Congress for harassing the family instead of offering help in their crisis and extended CPM's willingness to protect them if necessary. Govindan also remarked that Congress leaders, including Sulthan Bathery MLA I C Balakrishnan, were unable to face the people of the district after the incident became controversial.
Opposition leader’s counterpoint
Meanwhile, to counter Govindan, Satheesan raised concerns about families who had invested in the defunct CPM-controlled Brahmagiri Development Society. Those families, including those who have invested their pension funds, were on the verge of suicide, Satheesan added at a press conference. "Let the CPM first validate their concerns," he said.
Satheesan stated that Congress will assess the seriousness of the incident and commit to corrective measures at the cooperative banks under its control.
