Pathanamthitta: A 47-year-old man sustained severe burns after jumping into the Aazhi (sacred fire pit) at the Anandapally Chennaykkunnu Ayyappa Temple while intoxicated. The injured, Anil Kumar from Mathoor, has been admitted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred during the Makara Vilakku festival rituals at the temple, which included the Aazhi and traditional fire-walking (Padukkam) ceremonies. Anil Kumar, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, leapt into the fire pit designated for devotees observing rituals to walk through the flames.
