Kochi: The Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court refused to grant bail and remanded businessman Boby Chemmanur in judicial custody for 14 days following a sexual harassment complaint filed by actor Honey Rose.
Chemmanur, who was arrested by the police, was brought to the court from the Central Police Station. He will be shifted to Ernakulam sub jail later. Upon the completion of the hearing, Chemmanur reportedly fainted in the court. The police conducted two medical examinations on Chemmanur — one late on Wednesday night and another early on Thursday morning.
Speaking to the media, Chemmanur denied any wrongdoing, claiming, "I have not done anything that warrants an apology. The case against me revolves only around alleged double entendre remarks."
Chemmanur's defence counsel argued in court for bail, stating his willingness to cooperate with the investigation. Chemmanur also informed the court that he was not mistreated by the police. When the magistrate inquired about physical injuries, Chemmanur replied that he had sustained injuries to his leg and spine from a fall two days ago.
The prosecution, however, strongly opposed granting bail, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and asserting that they have digital evidence to support the case. They stated that Chemmanur's actions constituted a grave offence and urged the court to deny bail.
The magistrate, however, indicated there was no immediate need to review video evidence at this stage. Chemmanur’s counsel argued that the complainant had remained friendly with him even after the controversial remarks were made. Chemmanur also claimed that he had been in police custody for over 30 hours and was facing baseless allegations. Additionally, he stated that the complainant had already shared the video on social media herself. The court reserved its decision on the bail plea, announcing that the verdict would be delivered later in the afternoon.
During the hearing, Honey Rose's complaint was read out in court. The magistrate clarified that the court would not delve into the merits of the case at this stage.
