Prominent businessman Boby Chemmanur, arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with a sexual harassment case filed by Malayalam actor Honey Rose, will be presented in court on Thursday. The case stems from allegations that Chemmanur made 'repeated sexually coloured' remarks against the actor, leading to charges under Section 75(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67 of the IT Act. As non-bailable charges have been filed, the court will consider his bail application.
During police questioning, Chemannur repeatedly claimed he had not committed any wrongdoing. He stated that his remarks were not made with malicious intent and that references shared in interviews were based on mythology. Chemannur further told the media on Wednesday that he felt no guilt over the incident and that the complaint against him stemmed from a misinterpretation of double entendre.
Meanwhile, the investigation team is seeking a copy of Honey Rose’s confidential statement. A formal application for this will be submitted to the court. Once the copy is received, there are indications that additional charges may be filed against Boby.
Chemmanur was taken into custody in Wayanad on Wednesday morning. Police blocked his car at a tea estate before taking him to a camp in Puthurvayal. From there, he was transported to Kochi on a journey that took around seven hours. His arrest was officially recorded at the Central Police Station in Kochi around 7.30 pm. The SIT, formed specifically for this investigation, acted on Rose's complaint, which alleged that Chemmanur made inappropriate remarks about her through various platforms, including interviews and social media.
Honey Rose first raised the issue on social media, accusing an individual of stalking her and making inappropriate remarks. Although she initially withheld the person’s identity, she later revealed that her complaint was against Boby Chemmanur. Following this, she thanked Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Kerala police for their prompt support and action. Rose stated that she and her family were deeply thankful for the assurance and legal backing extended to her.
