Kochi: Businessman Boby Chemmanur, who was taken into custody following actor Honey Rose's complaint of sexual harassment, was arrested on Wednesday, according to Kochi DCP Aswathy Gigi. The police team, along with Chemmanur, has arrived at the Ernakulam Central Police Station.
Honey Rose’s confidential statement, recorded before the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate for over two hours, will play a crucial role in determining whether additional charges should be filed against Chemmanur in the existing case. Based on this statement, Chemmanur is currently being interrogated at the Central Police Station.
Honey Rose had earlier filed a detailed complaint against Chemmanur, alleging explicit sexual harassment, defamation and other inappropriate behaviour. She highlighted incidents connected to a jewellery inauguration event in Alakkode, Kannur, owned by Chemmanur, as well as other instances where defamatory and sexually harassing remarks were made against her. She also submitted digital evidence, including comments and references made in public forums and digital platforms.
Additionally, Rose lodged complaints against around 20 YouTube channels that allegedly used her name and photos in thumbnails to promote defamatory content related to the remarks. Following her detailed complaint, Honey Rose provided a confidential statement to the Magistrate today. While the specifics of the statement remain undisclosed, it will serve as a basis for the police to determine further charges.
Currently, Chemmanur faces charges under IPC Section 75 (offenses related to sexual harassment) and Section 67 of the IT Act, which deals with obscene material in electronic form. Further charges may be added depending on the investigation's findings.
