Malappuram: Nilambur MLA P V Anvar expressed his concerns over the proposed Kerala Forest (Amendment) Bill, 2024, alleging it's part of a coordinated effort to displace people. He warned that if the amendments are passed, forest officials could effectively become goons. The bill proposes to amend the Kerala Forest Act, 1961.
Speaking to the media, Anvar further stated that the amendment's detrimental effects would soon become clear. He highlighted ongoing efforts to expand forest areas, which he believes are a deliberate effort to displace people.
He also raised concerns over attempts to bring river rights under the control of the Forest Department. "What contribution has the Forest Minister made to Kerala with the effort to control river rights and bring them under the Forest Department?" he questioned.
Anvar emphasised the need for the UDF to come to power, stating, "This issue, which directly affects the public, must be addressed by the UDF. I don't seek any position, be it MLA or otherwise."
Anvar is expected to join the UDF, as he is set to meet IUML leaders Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and PK Kunhalikutty on Tuesday. This comes in the wake of UDF leaders voicing their support for Anvar after his arrest in connection with the Nilambur DFO office march.
