Malappuram: A man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in a forest in Nilambur here. The deceased is Mani (40), a resident of Poochappara and belongs to the Cholanaikkan community.

The attack occurred around 7 pm when Mani, along with Karthik and Kuttiveeran, were walking towards the Aala in Poochappara. While Mani could not escape, the other two managed to flee the scene.

Forest officials received information about the incident at 9.30 pm. Mani sustained critical head injuries and was bleeding heavily. He was first transported to Cherupuzha in a jeep and later shifted to the district hospital in an ambulance. Despite efforts to save him, Mani succumbed to his injuries.
