Around 10 people were injured and one feared dead after a minibus with Sabarimala pilgrims on board lost control, ran into pedestrians and plowed through vehicles parked by the roadside at Thulapally in Perunad panchayat on Sunday. The vehicle, which sped through the road, eventually veered off the road and fell into a ground.
The pilgrims also sustained injuries in the accident. The pedestrians who were knocked down by the minibus were shifted to the hospital along with passengers in the minibus, said panchayat ward member Varghese A S.
Eyewitnesses said that the accident happened along Plapally - Thulapally road. The stretch is a sharp descent, and residents have earlier asked the police and authorities not to allow traffic along the road during Sabarimala pilgrimage season. In a similar accident, a vehicle had run into three vehicles parked by the roadside recently. The condition of a few of the injured persons is critical.
