Malappuram: Congress has nipped in the bud Nilambur MLA PV Anvar's plan to cosy up to the party by inviting senior leaders to the three-day-long agitation march against the Kerala Forest Act Amendment Bill.
While announcing the rally, Anvar claimed that two of the three DCC presidents from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency would participate in the protest. However, Congress did not allow any senior DCC officers to participate in the event.
The Congress in Nilambur has announced a parallel protest against the Bill in the region.
Anvar had expected that the rally would boost his political career, which has been floundering since his exit from the LDF.
The Congress convened a meeting on Thursday evening to prepare the agitation and convened a press meeting on Friday to announce it before the inauguration of Anvar's rally.
"None of the Congress leaders would participate in Anvar's rally. The ML A had misled the local body Congress leadership by convening a meeting of MLAs without revealing the agenda of the meeting," Nilambur Block Congress President Paloli Mehboob said.
"The panchayat presidents, who are Congress activists, had no idea about the intention of the meeting. Anvar later depicted their presence as them offering him support for the rally. The party has not decided whether to support him or not. However, there is no joint rally, he added.
The three-day rally begins on Friday evening and will cover the route from Mananthavady in the Wayanad to Vazhikkadavu in Malappuram district.
The MLA had announced that Wayanad DCC President ND Appachan would inaugurate the rally at Panamaram on Friday evening.
"Anvar had asked me to inaugurate the rally on Thursday. I will not participate in the event as the party is not backing it," Appachan told Onmanorama.
