Kannur: The Motor Vehicles Department has dismissed the driver’s claims that the brake failure caused the school bus accident at Valakkai in Kannur's Sreekandapuram that resulted in the death of a student.
Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Riyas told Manorama News that the driver Nizamuddin’s claim was untrue. Upon inspection, no faults were found in the vehicle’s braking system. The MVI stated that the accident was caused solely by the driver’s error.
Nizamuddin also said that he was not using his phone while driving and that a WhatsApp status he uploaded was shot earlier. He also denied speeding and reiterated that brake failure led to the accident.
The Sreekandapuram police have registered a case against the driver under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125 (A) (endangering human life or personal safety due to negligence or recklessness), and 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of BNS.
The body of Nedhya S Rajesh, the student who lost her life in the accident, will be handed over to her family after the autopsy at the Pariyaram Medical College. The body will be kept for public viewing at Chinmaya School, Kurumathur, before being taken to her home in Chorukkala. The cremation is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Kurumathur panchayat public crematorium.
