Thrissur: A 22-year-old youth was critically injured after being stabbed by a history-sheeter in Mullurkara, Thrissur, allegedly for not wishing him 'Happy New Year.'

Shuhaib from Attur sustained wounds to his head and arms and is currently receiving treatment in the ICU at Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur. The attacker, identified as Shafi, also known as Pappi, has a history of criminal behaviour, having been previously booked under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA).

The incident occurred early on Wednesday. Shuhaib and four friends were returning home on a motorcycle after attending a musical programme in Cheruthuruthy as part of the New Year celebrations.

While on they way near Kollammakk, Shafi confronted Shuhaib, stating he should have wished him directly. In an apparent fit of rage, Shafi stabbed Shuhaib multiple times, inflicting a total of 24 stab wounds to his head and arms. Shafi also sought treatment at the hospital, claiming that he had been attacked.
