Kozhikode: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) suspended the license of a two-wheeler rider in Kozhikode for six months on Tuesday. C K Jafnas, a resident of Chelavoor, was also fined Rs 5000.

The RTO's action followed a viral video showing the vehicle causing a disturbance and blocking the movements of an ambulance carrying an ill patient for over 30 kilometres. Officials tracked down Jafnas after the video surfaced.

Assistant Vehicle Inspectors A K Mustafa and Hareesh visited his home on Tuesday morning, and he was later presented before the RTO in the afternoon, where he admitted to the offence. He was also ordered to attend a training session at the Institute of Driver Training and Research (IDTR) in Edappal.

The ambulance driver, Unais Meppadi, explained that the two-wheeler continuously honked and forced its way in front of the ambulance for over 30 kilometres from Adivaram to Kunnamangalam. This blocked the way for the ambulance carrying a neuro patient from Wims Hospital, Wayanad, to the Government Medical College in Kozhikode for surgery.  As a result, the ambulance was delayed by 30 minutes.
