Kollam: The prison department granted parole on Monday to Kiran Kumar, convicted of abetment to suicide charges that led his wife, Vismaya, to take her own life on June 21, 2021.
The accused was sentenced to 10 years in prison under sections of IPC 304 (B) for dowry death, 306 (abetment to suicide), and 498 (A) (matrimonial cruelty for dowry).
The prison department approved his parole after rejecting the police report. In the first application, the police and probation reports were against the accused. However, in the second application, the probation report favoured him, though the police report remained against him. Later, the prison chief reviewed the case and granted him parole for 30 days.
Vismaya was found hanging in the bathroom of Kiran Kumar's house at Sasthamkotta in Kollam on June 21, 2021. The victim was a fourth-year undergraduate student in Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) at Mannam Ayurveda College in Pandalam. She married Kiran Kumar on May 31, 2020.
