Kochi: Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas, who fell from the gallery at Kaloor Stadium, has sustained injuries to the brain, spine and lungs, hospital authorities reported on Sunday.

According to a medical bulletin issued by Renai Medicity at 10 pm on Sunday, Uma Thomas was brought to the emergency department in an unconscious state with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 8, indicating severe injury. The MLA is under the care of a multidisciplinary medical team and remains in the intensive care unit, where she is undergoing further tests and treatment. Despite the severity of her head injury, emergency surgery is not required at this stage, according to Neuro Surgeon Dr Mishal Johny. Preliminary CT scans have ruled out major fractures. Following initial treatments, including sutures for her wounds, her condition will be closely monitored, and a clearer assessment will be made after 24 hours of observation.

“We conducted a fast body scan, and no other fractures were detected. Our focus is on the injuries to her brain and lungs. She is currently on a ventilator and is being shifted to the operation theatre for suturing. Immediate intervention or surgery is not required. However, she remains unconscious and will need to be observed for 24 hours,” said Dr Krishnanunni Polakkulath, Medical Director of Renai Medicity, Palarivattom, addressing the media.
