Thiruvananthapuram: The Mangalapuram Police have booked BJP leader Madhu Mullassery under sections 318 (cheating) and 316 (fraud) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following multiple complaints regarding alleged fund embezzlement on Sunday.
Area Secretary Jaleel filed a complaint with the Attingal DySP after the contractor who arranged the equipment, including a mic set and canopy for the Pothencode conference claimed that Mullassery did not pay him the remaining amount. Following this, nearly 10 other secretaries raised complaints.
The DySP forwarded the case to Mangalapuram police for further investigation. Jaleel claims that Mullassery embezzled over Rs 3 lakh, which Jaleel says he had given to Mullassery.
The formal local CPM leader was expelled from the party for walking out of its area conference at Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district. He joined the BJP on December 4 after accepting the party membership from state president K Surendran.
