Idukki: A 22-year-old man was killed in an elephant attack on Sunday. Amar Ilahi, a resident of Mullaringadu, was attacked by a wild elephant in Vannappuram Grama Panchayat, near Kothamangalam forest range while untying his cattle in a teak plantation.
Amar’s friend, Mansoor, who was with him at the time, managed to escape. Local residents rushed Amar to the hospital after Mansoor raised the alarm. However, he succumbed to his injuries. His mortal remains are being kept at the Karikode Taluk Hospital.
The area has been grappling with elephant attacks for the past few years. Although a protective solar fence was created, it remains incomplete, a panchayat member told Manorama News. Though elephants were sent away from populated regions temporarily as part of Forest Department's efforts, there is no permanent solution, according to residents.
