VS Sunil Kumar says Thrissur mayor supports BJP; MK Varghese denies claims

Thrissur: CPI leader and former Agriculture Minister VS Sunil Kumar has criticised Thrissur Mayor MK Varghese, alleging that accepting a cake from BJP President K Surendran was not as innocent as it appeared.
"The cake from K Surendran did not arrive by chance. During the Lok Sabha elections, the Mayor favoured the BJP. His loyalty is with them (the BJP). The Left Front cannot allow this at its expense," said Sunil Kumar.
Responding to the minister's remarks, Mayor MK Varghese said that Surendran's visit to his house was not pre-planned. "He came on Christmas Day to share love and goodwill, which cannot be opposed.
"If the BJP offers a cake, would Sunil Kumar refuse it? Sunil Kumar has never visited me, and he should refrain from making such statements," the Mayor said.
"I don’t step out of my house on Christmas Day. If someone brings a cake, I won’t turn them away. Cakes are given to all political parties. Let them prove I campaigned for Suresh Gopi. Sunil Kumar doesn’t matter to me. His arguments are childish," the Mayor added during a press conference called to refute the allegations.
