Kannur: In a shocking incident, an employee ended his life by hanging himself after setting the resort where he worked on fire. The deceased is Premanandan, a native of Palakkad. The incident occurred at Bhanu's Beach Enclave, a resort in Payyambalam around 3 pm on Wednesday.

Premanandan, caretaker of the resort took the extreme step after learning that the resort management had decided to terminate him from his job.

Manorama News reported that residents of the resort had a narrow escape, but two dogs were killed in the fire.

Four North Indian tourists were the only guests at the resort. The caretaker reportedly executed his plan after the guests left for sightseeing. Premanandan had been working at the resort for the past six years.

Premanandan allegedly brought two bottles of petrol and a gas cylinder into the resort's hall before setting it ablaze. Two employees who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the police and fire force.

When the flames spread to his body, Premanandan ran outside and hanged himself from a pillar near a well on an adjacent property.

The police stated that the mortal remains would be shifted to Pariyaram Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination after the inquest procedures.
