Idukki: The Director Board of the Kattappana Rural Development Cooperative Society on Tuesday suspended three officials in connection with the suicide of a textile shop owner. The suspended officials are Bank Secretary Reji Abraham Senior Clerk Sujamol Jose and Junior Clerk Binoy Thomas. The action was taken after the vendor's suicide note named them as responsible for his death.

Sabu (56) was found hanging in front of the bank on December 20. In his suicide note, he accused Reji Abraham, Binoy Thomas, and Sujamol Jose of denying him access to his deposits and mistreating him at the bank. Sabu’s wife, Marykutty, alleged that her husband was deeply upset after Binoy used abusive language and shouted at him when he requested his money.

Sabu had reportedly approached the bank multiple times to withdraw funds for his wife's medical treatment. He intended to withdraw Rs 2 lakh for her surgery but was denied the full amount. The officials only released Rs 80,000 in two instalments.

A former worker in Australia, Sabu had invested his entire savings in the bank. Marykutty revealed that Rs 14 lakh of his total savings remain in the bank. She has demanded that the police slap abetment-to-suicide charges against the officials mentioned in her husband’s suicide note.

According to Marykutty, Sabu had been trying to withdraw money for a year to pay for her medical expenses. She recently underwent surgery to remove her uterus, and Sabu had planned to use his savings to cover the costs. However, the bank reportedly refused to release the necessary funds, citing insufficient reserves caused by prior loan distributions.
