Sunburn @ Boche 1000 Acre: Boby Chemmannur seeks permission from Wayanad Collector amid legal dispute

Kalpetta: Boby Chemmannur, chief promoter of Boche 1000 Acre, where a music festival is set to be held on New Year's Eve, on Saturday said he hoped the district collector would grant necessary permissions required to conduct the event. Addressing the media, Boby said the organisers were waiting for a nod from the district administration to proceed with 'Sunburn @ Boche 1000 Acre'.
Providing clarity on the rumour that the High Court had issued a stay on the event, Boby said the court had only stipulated that the event should not occur without the required permissions from relevant authorities. He also shared the interim order from the High Court, which instructed the respondents, including the district collector, "to ensure that the 6th respondent is not conducting any programme as proposed at 'Boche 1000 Acre' in Chulika Estate, Wayanad, without obtaining the required permissions."
"We have already submitted the necessary applications and documents for the required permissions, and I am hopeful that the Collector will grant them," Boby Chemmannur said.
"We are expecting 3,000 to 4,000 attendees, and there will be a ticket fee. Last year, allowing free entry was a mistake. It led to an overwhelming crowd reaching the venue, causing chaos. This year, we have arranged to park all vehicles inside the property, so there will be no traffic snarls, and we will ensure there is no disruption to the public," he explained.
Chemmannur also announced that the profits from the event would be donated to the welfare fund for the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide victims. He further claimed that the event is being organised with the District Tourism Promotion Council, the Department of Tourism, and several tourism organisations operating in Wayanad.
The legal dispute arose from a complaint filed by two senior citizens from the Chulika plantation region. They urged the district administration to halt large-scale construction activities in the area that were being carried out without the necessary permissions and prevent the music festival from taking place. After the district administration delayed action, the senior citizens approached the High Court, which intervened.
