ADGP MR Ajith Kumar likely to be promoted as DGP

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is considering the promotion of ADGP MR Ajith Kumar to the position of Director General of Police (DGP). A screening committee within the police department has submitted a list of officers for senior positions, including DGP, ADGP, IG, and DIG. Apart from Ajith Kumar, who is facing allegations including corruption, 1995-batch officer S Suresh, currently on central deputation is also named in the list for DGP post.
According to Manorama News, the cabinet has approved the screening committee's recommendations. Ajith Kumar's name has been proposed for the DGP position as the criminal charges and allegations against him have not been proven yet. The current DGP, Sheikh Darvesh Saheb, will serve in the role until 2025. If the government grants a clean chit to Ajith Kumar, he is expected to become the next state police chief.
MR Ajith Kumar, currently ADGP for Law and Order, has come under fire after Nilambur MLA PV Anvar levelled bribery and corruption allegations against him. The MLA also accused him of playing a significant role in disrupting the Thrissur Pooram festival. Following these accusations, the Chief Minister ordered a high-level investigation into the claims made by the MLA against police officials, including Ajith Kumar.
In a report submitted to the Chief Minister, DGP Sheikh Darvesh Saheb highlighted Ajith Kumar's supervisory lapses during Thrissur Pooram. The report alleged that Ajith Kumar intentionally failed to take timely action to address issues related to the renowned temple festival and delayed the subsequent investigation.
As per the list of the screening committee, Tarun Kumar, a 2000 batch official will be considered for the ADGP post. Debesh Kumar Behra, Uma, Rajpalmeena and Jayanath J are named in the list for the IG post. Yatheesh Chandra, Hari Sankar, Karthik K, Pratheesh Kumar and T Narayan are on the DIG list.
