Malappuram: The death of a policeman at the Special Operations Group camp at Areekode by suicide has sparked a fresh controversy. Talking to Manorama News, Kalpetta MLA T Siddique alleged that the cop shot himself to death after facing harassment from superiors. The deceased Vineeth from Wayanad's Padinjarethara was a commando under Kerala police.
“I did not meet his family members. However, I have collected information regarding this case. He was forced to end his life by the police chiefs. He faced brutal mental torture at the workplace. This incident reveals the harassment and suppression of employees in the police department. Vineeth had sent a message as his death note to a relative. In it he has hinted at the extreme mental distress at the camp,” Siddique said.
It has now emerged that Vineeth had sent a message to his relative on Sunday night, a few hours before his death. In it, accessed by Manorama News, he hinted that he was facing some issues at the camp and asked to share the message with Assistant Commissioner Ajith.
Vineeth was found dead with bullet injuries inside the bathroom of the SOG Camp on Sunday night. Though he was rushed to a private hospital at Areekode, he succumbed to his injuries. It is alleged that he was in deep mental distress after his superiors rejected his leave application. He applied for leave to take his pregnant wife to hospital.
Manorama News reported that Vineeth was upset after his superiors sent him to 40 days of rigorous training after he failed the refreshment course.
