Educational institutions in eight districts in Kerala will remain closed today due to heavy rain.

Schools and colleges will remain closed in Kottayam, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Kannur and Ernakulam, informed the respective district collectors. However, PSC and university exams will be held as scheduled in all the above districts.

Kasargod Collector Inbasekar K declared holiday for all educational institutions in the district today. In a statement released at 6.10 am, he said heavy rain in the past 24 hours has flooded many areas in the district. "As a precautionary measure, colleges, State, CBSE, ICSC schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, anganwadis and madrasas in the district will be closed today," he said. However, there will be no change in exams.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had on Monday issued an orange alert (115.6-204.4 mm) for Wayanad and other north Kerala districts.
