Thodupuzha: Former MLA S Rajendran will not be taking part in the CPM Idukki district conference to be held here.

Rajendran has informed the party that he was staying away from the district conference following certain personal issues.

The former three-time Devikulam legislator decided to keep off the conference, commencing Monday, after he reportedly failed to obtain an assurance from the district leadership that there would be no disciplinary action against him.

Rajendran has been blamed for trying to defeat CPM's Devikulam candidate A Raja in the state polls held last April. The two-member inquiry commission appointed by the party found Rajendran guilty of indulging in anti-party activities during the Assembly polls. Earlier CPM district secretary had issued a notice to Rajendran seeking explanation on the matter.

Last week, CPM's Idukki district committee recommended to the party state committee to oust Rajendran for a year.

Rajendran has been one of the tallest CPM leaders in Idukki district and represented the Devikulam Assembly constituency for three terms from 2006 onwards. He was deeply upset when the party rejected his request to contest the April 6 Assembly polls for the fourth time.
