Kochi: There will be reduction of half an hour in the travel time of Thiruvananthapuram-Madurai Amritha Express and Tirunelveli-Palakkad Palaruvi Express, according to the new railway schedule that will come into force from July 1.
However, there are no major changes in the timings of other trains. There will be a difference of five minutes in trains that start from Thiruvananthapuram, including Venad, Parasuram, Sabari and Kozhikode Jan Shatabdi trains.
A few passenger trains will also see a change of five to 10 minutes in their timings. The extra half an hour provided to trains running in Kerala to maintain their timing on account of delays has not been cancelled. The extra time has been retained in the name of covering passage through stretches with unfinished track repair works.
Amrita Express will start from Thiruvananthapuram at 8.30 pm and reach Kottayam at 11.27 pm, Ernakulam at 1.10 am and Palakkad at 5.20 am. Starting at 5.45 am from Palakkad, it will reach Madurai at 11.50 am.
On return, the train will start from 3.20 pm from Madurai, reaching Palakkad at 8.15 pm. It will resume from Palakkad at 8.40 pm and arrive at Ernakulam at 11.45 pm and Thiruvananthapuram at 5.50 am.
The Tirunelveli-Palakkad Palaruvi Express is faster by 30 minutes in its onward journey and by 20 minutes on return. The Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Maveli Express will reach 10 minutes early at 7.45 am at Thiruvananthapuram.
The Nagercoil-Mangaluru Parasuram Express and Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad Sabari Express will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 6.15 am and 7 am respectively. After the monsoon timings are over, the Pune-Ernakulam Poorna Express will reach Ernakulam at 3.50 am. Now, the train arrives in Ernakulam at 8 am.
The Barauni-Ernakulam Express will arrive 10 minutes early. The number of the Thiruvananthapuram-Guruvayur Intercity will change; the new number will be 16841/42.
