After NIA court gives nod, Madani leaves for Kerala Abdul Nasser Madani. File photo

Palakkad: PDP chairman Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in Bengaluru serial blasts case, on Friday began his journey to Kerala from Bengaluru. He is expected to reach his hometown in Karunagappally by Saturday.

The NIA court had permitted Madani, 31st accused in the serial blasts case, to visit his ailing mother in Kerala. The court gave him permission to stay in Kerala till May 11.

Earlier in the day, some tense moments prevailed when the police stopped Madani from going to a mosque in Kanjikode in Palakkad. The police and the PDP workers were engaged in an altercation, after the cops said that there was no mention of this in the court order. Later, Madani was allowed to enter the mosque.

Madani had visited Kerala on four previous occasions between 2013 and 2017.
