Thalassery: PDP chairman and 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts accused Abdul Nasser Madani on Wednesday said that certain centers were trying to consciously break the communal harmony in the state.

"Even as communal forces are creating trouble in rest of India, Kerala has been able to remain immune to it. Some forces are trying to destroy it. A TV channel had recently aired my earlier comments on deities and worship places. This was highly disappointing," Madani told reporters after attending his son's wedding here.

Tight security

The police have arranged foolproof security as part of Madani's visit to Thalassery to take part in his son's wedding Wednesday.

The police threw a shadow cordon around Madani, who was permitted by the NIA court to visit his parents as well. The Town Hall, the venue of the wedding, had been under police surveillance for some time. The police also stepped up security around the lodge where Madani has been put up.

The bomb disposal and anti-sabotage teams of the police, assisted by the dog squad, repeatedly inspected all key spots, including the Thalassery railway station. The police stepped up deployment and plainclothesmen kept watch.

Madani was received by a number of followers at the Thalassery station, headed to the lodge at Logan road from there. CPM leaders E.P. Jayarajan and P. Jayarajan also attended Madani's son Hafiz Umar Mukthar's wedding. By 4 pm, he left for the bride's house to take part in the reception party arranged there. A team of Karnataka police personnel is accompanying Madani. People from different parts of the state will attend the wedding. DySP Prince Abraham is in charge of the security arrangement.
