Kochi: The police on Tuesday raided the house and office of lawyer C.P. Udayabhanu who has found himself enmeshed deeper in the case relating to the murder of Rajeev, a real estate dealer in Chalakudy.
The raid conducted by Chalakudy police is to find crucial evidence that shows the real estate deal between Rajeev and the main accused Johny.
The prosecution on Monday informed the judge that the Udayabhanu has been named as the seventh accused in the case and handed over evidence against him in a sealed cover.
The judge posted the matter to October 23 for further consideration and directed the police not to arrest the lawyer till then.
The judge also directed police to issue notice to Udayabhanu if needed for interrogation.
Rajeev, a real estate broker, was found murdered in an abandoned building at Pariyaram. The police arrested three suspects on Friday and said the trio strangled Rajeevan after an altercation related to a property deal. The trio wanted the broker to return the money they had given as an advance payment, the police said.
Udayabhanu came under the scanner because Rajeev had written to the director general of police that he faced a threat to his life from the advocate.
The main accused, Johny (Chakkara Johny), and his accomplice Ranjith were arrested from Palakkad earlier this month.
