Rajeev murder: lawyer Udayabhanu arrested C.P. Udayabhanu was arrested from his brother's house in Thrippunithura Wednesday night.

Thrissur: Prominent lawyer C.P. Udayabhanu, who was arrested for the murder of real estate dealer Rajeev, was remanded for 14 days on Thursday.

Udayabhanu was sent to Irinjalakuda sub-jail. The police, in their remand report, said there were clear evidence of the lawyer's role in the conspiracy behind the murder. The police also argued that the accused was likely to influence witnesses if he was granted bail.

Meanwhile, Udayabhanu reportedly termed the killing an inadvertent error committed by the other four accused.

"All I wanted was Rajeev's signature in a couple of documents. Other than that I had no role in the murder," Udayabhanu reportedly told the police.

Udayabhanu was arrested from his brother's house in Thrippunithura Wednesday night. However, his relatives claimed that the arrest came at a time when he was planning to surrender.

Rajeev was found murdered in a deserted building at Chalakudy in Thrissur district in September. Udayabhanu is the seventh accused in the case.

The prosecution had claimed that Udayabhanu had links with the 46-year-old real estate dealer and the people arrested in connection with his killing.
