BJP workers turn vigilantes in Kerala, stop vehicle carrying cows Representational image

Mallappally (Kottayam): In an act of vigilantism, BJP workers in Kerala intercepted a vehicle carrying cows at Mallappally on Thursday.

The cows, which were bought from a house at Ezhumattoor, were being taken to Thengana near Changanassery. The vehicle was stopped near Mallappally Taluk Hospital.

The police have registered a case against six BJP workers in connection with the incident. The police said the vehicle will be released soon.

The BJP workers swung into action after the central government's notification banning the sale of cattle for slaughter through animal markets.

The incident coincided with the Kerala Assembly's special session on Thursday that saw bitter political rivals - the ruling LDF and the UDF - closing ranks to oppose the cattle slaughter ban, calling it a 'fascist' move.

The House adopted a resolution asking the Center to withdraw its notification.
