Malayalam film producer-director and Aries Group chairman and CEO Sohan Roy has presented his wife with the most memorable wedding anniversary gift ever.
Sohan Roy, a naval architect who operates from the UAE, presented wife Abhini a Rolls-Royce Cullinan that costs Rs 7 crore as part of their 25th wedding anniversary celebrations. Abhini thus became the first Indian woman to own the world's most expensive SUV.
They had booked the vehicle in June. Incidentally, Sohan Roy, who directed and produced controversial movie Dam999, also owns a Rolls-Royce, the Ghost. The Cullinan was launched in India earlier this month. The fully customised vehicle has many unique attributes; since it is built according to the requirements of customers, every Cullinan produced will be unique.
Though it is synonymous with luxury, the company claims that the Cullinan is one of the fastest luxury SUVs in the world. Cullinan is also the British car maker's first attempt in making a sports utility vehicle. The SUV got its name from the 3,106-carat diamond Cullinan, the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found, discovered in South Africa in 1905. It was named after Thomas Cullinan, the mine's chairman.
Rolls-Royce Cullinan is the world's most expensive SUV with a price tag of US$3.24 lakh. (Approximately Rs 2.14 crore but the costs spike when it is sold in India due to taxes).
The Cullinan is powered by a 6.75-litre, V12 twin-turbo petrol engine that produces 563 bhp of peak power and 850 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The first 4WD from Rolls-Royce is also equipped with a four-wheel steering system to help manoeuvre its considerable bulk. The top speed is 250 kmph.
The Cullinan also have drive modes to help tackle any terrain. The vehicle is based on an aluminium space frame architecture and is 5.341 metres long, 2.164 metres wide and 1.835 metres tall. It has a wheelbase of 3.295 metres and the unladen kerb weight is an obscene 2,600 kg.
The Cullinan is a three-box all-terrain high-bodied car and offers acres of space and oodles of luxury inside. It is available in four-seat and five-seat configurations. Features include night vision, vision assist, wild life and pedestrian warning system, alertness assistant with a four-camera system with panoramic view, all-round visibility and helicopter view, active cruise control, and a collision warning system, among others.
Sohan is the producer-director of Burning Wells, a dream project of ace Mollywood director I V Sasi. He was also the producer of M. Padmakumar's 2016-flick Jalam.
