Kerala gets record summer rainfall in 5 years, Kottayam leads

With climate change augmenting weather vagaries and temperature touching record levels from February this year, Kerala has been bracing for yet another harshest summer. But the state witnessed a sudden reverse of atmospheric conditions after a few spells of thundershowers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released data on summer rainfall from March 1st to 26th. This year has received the highest rainfall in the last 5 years. A total of 58.2 millimetres of rain has been received so far. In 2021, it was 35.7 millimetres. Last year received the least amount of rainfall.

Except for Kasaragod, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Pathanamthitta districts, this year's rainfall is the highest in the last 5 years. Kottayam district is in the first position with 108 millimetres of rainfall. Thiruvananthapuram with 100 millimetres and Pathanamthitta with 99 millimetres are close behind. Kasaragod recorded the least amount of summer rain during this period, with only 4.4 mm. In 2022, it was 53 mm.
The meteorological centre has clarified that there is a possibility of thunderstorms and rain in the coming days in Kerala.
