Rosemary oil, water, serum, hair mask, in-spray and more are commonly used to stimulate hair growth and improve scalp health. However, there are instances when the application does not give you good results and causes more hair loss. Why does that happen? According to dermatologists, rosemary, like many other medicinal herbs, should be used carefully and correctly to be effective. A variety of reasons can result in hair loss even after applying the oil, which are:

1) Improper dilution
Unless the rosemary oil you have is specifically mentioned on the bottle as meant for direct application, you should ensure that you dilute the oil with another carrier oil before applying it. Three to five drops of rosemary oil per one tablespoon of carrier oil, which can be coconut, argon, or sunflower, will be a good ratio. If not diluted well, it can even cause skin irritation.

2)Not massaging enough
For good results, you must massage the oil gently into your scalp and leave it on for at least half an hour.
3)  Sunlight exposure
Certain oils, like rosemary, can be sensitive to sunlight. Therefore, if you have applied them to your scalp, avoid venturing outside afterward.
4) Reaction with medicines
As an oil that improves circulation, rosemary can sometimes interact with medicines for blood thinning, resulting in bleeding in some people. Therefore, it's better to consult your doctor before using rosemary on your skin or scalp.
