Rajinikanth admitted in hospital for elective procedure: What's it for?

Actor Rajinikanth was admitted to Chennai's Appolo Hospital last night (Monday, September 30) after he experienced digestive discomfort. According to his wife Latha and the hospital sources, his condition is stable, however, an elective procedure will be performed in the cath lab today. What does it entail, and how will it help him? According to experts, it can be a surgery or a similar procedure which is not conducted during emergencies and can be scheduled in advance. It is done to improve the quality of health of a patient. 

In 2021 too, the actor had undergone a carotid artery revascularization operation, which is generally performed to improve blood flow in the carotid artery in the neck. He also underwent a kidney transplant at a hospital in the US in 2016, as per reports. In 2020, there were reports that he decided to take a backseat from politics as his doctors were worried about his health conditions.
