Serene and beautiful, this Irinjalakuda house captures Kerala's unique tradition

A Kerala-style rural house was the dream of Lijo and Lisa, a non-resident Indian couple. Without prioritizing luxury, this house in Irinjalakuda is designed to suit Kerala's climate.
The plan and elevation were prepared in a simple style, prioritizing ease of maintenance. A single-storey was chosen to facilitate easy communication between family members, but enhanced with a double-pitched roof for aesthetic appeal.

The exterior is marked by a combination of white and terracotta tiles, along with black stone textures. The elevation is arranged with rooms flanking a long verandah, designed to showcase the beauty of the traditional tile roof without obstructing the view. The main arch-shaped entrance is embellished with black stone cladding.Within the 2250 sq.ft area are a sit-out, formal living room, family living room, dining area, courtyard, kitchen with utility area, four bedrooms, and toilets.

The interiors are semi-open plan. The dining area, TV area, indoor courtyard, and prayer space are arranged within a single hall, separated not by walls but by furniture and partitions, creating a sense of spaciousness.

Another attractive feature is the partition crafted from wood and polished iron rods, overlooking the skylight courtyard. A louvre window opening from one bedroom to the courtyard, along with a seating area, adds to the charm of the interior. A wooden sliding door from the dining area opens to the courtyard, which is landscaped with a lawn.

All four bedrooms are designed to maximize natural light and ventilation, with attached wardrobes and bathrooms. The kitchen cabinets and wardrobes are made of marine plywood and wood. The abundant light and air create a cheerful atmosphere. Many people now visit to see the house.
