House built for elderly parents marked by easy access, maintenance: Video

This house, built in Karuvatta, Alappuzha district, covers 1800 square feet on a 15-cent plot. Including the structure, interiors, and landscaping, the total cost was Rs 43 lakh. The house, which is long and narrow, sits on a 10-cent area. The remaining five cents are reserved for cultivation and other purposes.

The courtyard is a blend of Bangalore stone and artificial grass. A prefabricated car porch, constructed using GI tubes and ACP sheets, is a striking feature of the courtyard. It comfortably accommodates two cars and cost Rs 88,000 rupees. Pearl grass and Mexican grass are used in the landscaping.

This house was built by a son for his parents retired from the CRPF, to enjoy their leisurely. Every corner of the house caters to their needs and preferences. The design prioritizes ease of maintenance. The single-story house has a ramp for wheelchair access. The flooring uses textured tiles with good grip to prevent slip. The same tiles are used throughout the house.

The sit-out is simple and beautiful. The main door opens into the living space. The house faces east, maximizing natural light through an east-facing glass wall. The living area leads to the heart of the home – an open hall. The dining area, kitchen, courtyard, and bedrooms are all part of this space.

A passage with Moroccan-finish tiles is a highlight of the hall. The teak dining table seats six. One dining room wall is highlighted with a cement texture finish. A wash area is adjacent.

The courtyard is centrally located, visible from all areas. The courtyard's jalousie wall is made of porotherm bricks, allowing for good ventilation. The kitchen prioritizes easy maintenance. It features a compact breakfast counter and ample storage. The cabinets are finished with WPC+mica. A work area is included.

The house has three attached bedrooms. Each bedroom opens to the courtyard and includes all necessary amenities. The bathrooms are senior-friendly, with plenty of handrails for support. The house was completed in eight months. The area was kept relatively small to minimize maintenance difficulties while maximizing functionality and comfort.
