Readers of Manorama Online Homestyle might remember the biggest mansion in Idukki district that was featured here. Meanwhile, this house at Vallakadav in Kattapana stands in the middle of a vast cardamom plantation and is just beside Idukki’s biggest house.
The old ancestral home that stood here was more than four decades old and time had begun taking a toll on the structure. However, the family was reluctant to tear down the house due to emotional attachment to it. So, they decided to renovate the house to preserve the special memories. A leaky ceiling, congested spaces and lack of natural lighting were some of the challenges that needed to be addressed.
Meanwhile, the exteriors looked dull and outdated, lacking lustre. Modern designer elements have been newly added on the elevation to amp up the look. Besides, the stylish tropical features perfectly suit the unique weather conditions of the region. The elevation of the renovated house now looks ‘young’, chic and extremely elegant. Truss roof has been newly installed and is paved with paving tiles. This roof with a deeper slope looks fabulous from the outside.
The long sit-out and the balcony on the upper floor are the perfect spots to enjoy the surrounding greenery, beautiful mountains and the cool mist. Designed in 4800 sfqt, this amazing mansion has a sit-out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen with a work area, four bedrooms and a home theatre too.
The spaces on the upper floor have been extended using AAC blocks as the structure is quite old. These blocks were chosen for construction as they are lighter, but can hold more weight.
The huge glass windows grant a contemporary vibe to the interiors while bringing in scintillating views of nature.
